Build a 72 Hour Kit

In the event that a disaster requires you to leave your home, it may be necessary to bring at least 3 days of essential supplies with you as you exit your home. If the disaster is widespread, and you do not have a 72 hour kit with you when you are forced from your home, you may not have access to the food, water, shelter and other essential supplies that are required for you to survive while you are away from your home. Remember the needs of each family member when building your 72 hour kits.

Items to consider in your 72-hour kit include the following.

  • Three days supply of drinking water, at least one gallon per person per day
  • Three days supply of food
  • Clothing that is appropriate for the current weather conditions and season
  • Shelter that is adequate for yourself or family, and bedding
  • Medication as needed, and first aid supplies
  • Copies of important documents
