Build a Car or Office Emergency Kit

In the event that a disaster occurs while you are away from home, such while in your car or at the office, it may be necessary to have an emergency kit with you containing emergency essentials.

An emergency kit for your car or office has many options, but the basics should include items similar to the following list:

  • Water bottles and water purification tablets
  • Emergency survival ration bars or equivalent portable food
  • Mylar emergency blanket or sleeping bag
  • Emergency radio with weather band, with extra batteries and/or hand crank power
  • Flashlight with extra batteries, unless the emergency radio has a built-in flashlight
  • First aid kit with first aid manual
  • Face masks
  • Whistle
  • Local maps, if needed
  • A bag, case or backpack to hold everything
