All residents are encouraged to prepare for a pandemic. A pandemic is a disease outbreak that spans several countries and affects a large number of people. For example, a virus-based pandemic, such as COVID-19, can emerge from anywhere and quickly spread around the world. It is hard to predict when or where the next new pandemic will emerge.
While there are differing approaches to healing the various diseases associated with pandemics, it is generally acknowledged that the best preparations for any pandemic include the following:
- Be healthy by eating a balanced diet of nutritious food, getting sufficient rest, living an active lifestyle, and exercising regularly
- Strengthen your body’s immune system by getting Vitamins C, D3, and other essential vitamins and minerals through a healthy diet, with vitamin supplements as needed
- Practice sanitation as part of your everyday lifestyle: thoroughly wash your hands as needed, avoid touching your face, and avoid close contact with those who have symptoms of an illness
