During his first General Conference address as the President and Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson made a significant promise: “Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work.” In order for us to better commune with the Lord as His true disciples, we need to be engaged in His work, of “bring[ing] to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39). A major part of this holy work includes regular attendance at His temple – the House of the Lord – making the essential, sacred covenants there for ourselves, and in behalf of others who are deceased, especially our own kindred.
