
All residents are encouraged to have emergency water storage on hand. In many disaster and emergency scenarios, water that is safe for drinking and cooking may not be readily available. You may want to consider the following recommendations.
- For your 72 hour kits, it is recommended that you have an average of one gallon per person per day, or a total of three gallons per person for 72 hour duration.
- For shelter-in-place scenarios, a two week supply of water is recommended, which is a total of 14 gallons per person for the two week duration.
- Beyond a two week scenario, you should have at least two methods for purifying the additional water you will need. Any of the following methods may be considered, as well as others not mentioned here:
- Boiling
- Bleaching
- Processing water through effective chemical treatments
- Filtration through extremely fine filters
